The Average Cost Of A Kitchen Remodel In Delaware

Whether you love to cook, host, or simply eat, chances are good that you’d love to do it in a beautiful kitchen. In modern houses, the kitchen is the centerpiece of the home – a place to gather, celebrate, and even do homework. It only makes sense that many people prioritize having a gorgeous kitchen.

Kitchen remodels can be pricey. Depending on the size of your kitchen and the finishes that you choose, you may spend anywhere from $30,000 for a more basic remodel to over $100,000 for a more extensive renovation with luxury finishes. Our Delaware kitchen remodel specialists will work with you to help you design a beautiful kitchen that fits within your budget.

Carl Deputy and Son Builders performs kitchen renovations and remodels throughout Kent and Sussex Counties. In addition to renovations, we build new custom and semi-custom houses for discerning homeowners throughout the region.  Contact us to talk to a kitchen remodel professional about renovating your kitchen.

How Much Will a Kitchen Remodel Cost in Delaware?

For many people, the idea of a brand new, fully remodeled kitchen is incredibly appealing. It can also be daunting. The idea of budgeting thousands of dollars for a remodel project can be overwhelming – especially if you don’t know exactly how much it will cost.

The average cost of a kitchen remodel in Delaware will vary significantly based on the scope of the project and the materials chosen. We typically categorize kitchen remodels into three groups:

  1. Basic kitchen remodel: a relatively minor kitchen remodel will use the existing layout for the cabinetry, plumbing, electrical, and appliances. New cabinets, countertops, plumbing fixtures, backsplash, and flooring will be installed.
  2. Mid-level kitchen remodel: the cabinets, plumbing, electrical, and appliances may be moved within the existing space. A higher level of new cabinets, flooring, countertops, backsplash, and plumbing fixtures will be installed as well.
  3. Major kitchen remodel:  existing walls may be removed for an expanded kitchen design, with the layout of cabinets, plumbing, electrical, and appliances to change as well. These remodels typically use more expensive countertops, such as quartzite instead of granite, custom cabinetry, and higher-end plumbing fixtures and tile for the backsplash.

The cost for each type of remodel will vary significantly. A minor kitchen remodel might cost $20,000 to $30,000, depending on the size of the kitchen and the finishes that you choose. A mid-level kitchen remodel might cost $40,000 to $60,000, while a major kitchen remodel might cost $60,000 to more than $100,000.

Of course, each kitchen remodel is unique. A lot of the price will come down to the individual choices that you make. For example, if you reuse your existing appliances, that will shave money off of the total cost. However, if you decide to put in a high-end commercial-grade oven, then you might add tens – or even hundreds of thousands – of dollars to your tab.

At Carl Deputy and Son Builders, we know that everyone’s financial situation is different. We can work with a range of budgets to help you get the kitchen of your dreams – at a price that works for you. What Factors Influence the Cost of My Delaware Kitchen Remodel?

Like any other construction project – whether it is a bathroom renovation or building a custom home – the ultimate cost of your kitchen remodel will be based on the choices that you make. While there are some expenses that are outside of your control – like the price of raw materials such as lumber – other costs come down to personal choice and preference.

There are several key factors that will impact the cost of your kitchen remodel. These include:

  • The type of kitchen that you want: if you want a large kitchen with space for family and friends to gather around a large island, then that will likely cost more than a smaller, more efficient kitchen. Similarly, if you want a full gourmet kitchen with commercial-grade appliances, then it will likely be a more costly remodel.
  • Changing size or configuration: any time that you are taking out walls, increasing size, moving windows or doors, or putting plumbing and electrical in a new location, it will cost more in both labor and materials. If you are keeping the same basic layout with no structural changes or changes to the configuration of your kitchen, then it will be less expensive.
  • Kitchen cabinets: one of the biggest expenses in any kitchen remodel is the cabinetry. You can choose from stock cabinets, semi-custom, or custom cabinets, each of which comes in a variety of grades from particleboard with veneer to solid wood. There are also different options for cabinet hardware, such as special interior storage and soft-close drawers and doors. The quality and quantity of the kitchen cabinets you choose will have a big impact on the overall cost of your project.
  • Countertops: the material that you choose for your counters – and the amount that you need – will have a big effect on the total cost. Natural stone countertops tend to be more popular and are also more expensive (based on grade and thickness). If you have a strong preference when it comes to the color, grain, and size of natural stone counters, then it will likely be pricier than choosing an engineered or composite counter material like quartz.
  • Appliances: if you buy new appliances for your kitchen remodel, then it will add to the total cost of the project. Kitchen appliances vary significantly in cost, from less than $1000 for a basic oven to more than $20,000 for a fancier range. Other appliances – like refrigerators and dishwashers – also vary significantly in cost.
  • Flooring: if you aren’t changing the layout of your kitchen, you might be able to reuse your existing flooring. Otherwise, the flooring that you pick will affect the total cost of your remodel. Natural stone, hardwood, and custom tile floors cost more than engineered wood, laminate, or basic tile flooring.
  • Trim work:  most cabinets and other parts of a kitchen need some level of trim work, such as chair rails, window and door trim, and shoe molding. Basic trim work won’t add much to the cost of your project. However, if you require more elaborate, custom trim work, it could add to the overall cost.
  • Lighting, fixtures, and other materials: cabinets, countertops, and appliances are the biggest expenses when it comes to kitchen remodels. However, other materials – such as sinks, lighting, and faucets – can also add to the cost. If you want hand-blown glass pendants, a large sink, or fancy sink fixtures, it will be more expensive than sticking with basic recessed lighting and undercabinet lights.

If you want to renovate your kitchen in a budget-friendly way, it is possible to achieve that goal. You may choose to reuse certain elements of your kitchen – like keeping the existing flooring – or choose less expensive alternatives. Working with our design team is a great way to help you understand how certain options will impact the total cost of your kitchen renovation.
