Our Kitchen Renovation Services
At Carl Deputy & Son Builders, we offer a range of kitchen remodeling services that can be tailored to meet your specific needs. We specialize in full kitchen renovations with features such as:
- Custom cabinetry, pull-outs, and related accessories: Whether you want plenty of storage drawers or cabinets built for your cooking or baking passions, we can make it happen. We work with homeowners to design solutions that make sense, such as pull-outs that maximize space or shallow storage options for spices.
- Custom lighting: Our designers will plan lighting solutions that not only look beautiful but are also functional for your space.
- Kitchen expansions: If you own an older home, then chances are good that your kitchen is much smaller than most modern kitchens. We can create an open floor plan or simply expand your kitchen space by removing walls in a thoughtful way to allow for more space.
- Butler’s pantries and storage: One of the main complaints that many people have about their kitchens is the lack of space. Whether you want a full butler’s pantry with an extra refrigerator and sink or simply a better place to store food and appliances, we can make it happen.
- Custom range hoods: When renovating your kitchen, you aren’t limited to range hoods available at your local hardware store. We can install a stylish custom range hood to match your aesthetic while improving ventilation.
- New floor plans: Many kitchens were not designed for how people utilize them – including eating at the counter or gathering together in the kitchen. Our designers will work with you to develop a floor plan and flow that works. We can help you choose a focal point – such as a beautiful island with a waterfall countertop – and design a kitchen that meets your family’s needs.
- Flooring, tiles, and other finishes: Kitchens should be both beautiful and functional. We can help you pick out flooring, tiles, and other finishes that complement your design choices and make your kitchen shine. We can also offer advice on the practicality of different materials, such as the care and maintenance of particular counter materials.
Our team can make your kitchen as streamlined or as elaborate as you would like. We work with many styles, from modern to traditional, to help you achieve the kitchen of your dreams.
The Kitchen Renovation Process
A kitchen renovation can take anywhere from a few months to more than a year based on the size and complexity of the project. No matter how big your remodel might be, there are certain steps that will be the same for every kitchen project.
1. Planning
We will meet with you to plan your kitchen remodel. Typically, we will do a walkthrough of your house to understand the scope of the project and what might be possible. For example, if you want to expand the footprint of your kitchen, we will check the walls to see if any are load-bearing and examine the exterior of the house to see if an addition may be possible.
During this meeting, we will talk about the budget, any features that you want to include, and your dreams for how your kitchen will look. We will also discuss the renovation timeline. When your kitchen is gutted, it can be a pretty big inconvenience – so it is important to have a realistic idea of how long you’ll be without a kitchen.
2. Budgeting
Based on our initial meeting and site visit, we will draft a proposal for the project that will include the estimated cost. This estimate will include a detailed breakdown of each item involved in your renovation, such as demolition, materials, and labor costs. Keep in mind that the size and complexity of the project – plus other factors like the price of the materials that you choose – will impact the total cost. For example, if you choose quartzite – a natural stone – over quartz for your countertops, it will be more expensive.
3. Contract Signing and Financing
Third, if you choose to work with our team, we will sign a contract for the kitchen renovation project. With this contract in hand, you can secure financing from your bank (if necessary). If you don’t have a lender in mind, we can recommend one for you.
4. Personalizing the Renovation
Before construction starts, we will meet with you to finalize the details of the project. This is the point where you will get to make your style and design choices – such as the finish of your cabinets and what backsplash you would like. We will also coordinate with you on project drawings so that you can finalize things like layouts and cabinets. The design phase is particularly important because it will allow you to visualize the renovation and decide how it will look.
5. Construction Phase
Before we start construction, we will seal off your kitchen from the rest of the house (if possible) and take other steps to protect your house – such as laying down floor protectors. Our goal is to make sure that the construction mess is as confined as possible to the kitchen, knowing that our clients are typically still living in their homes while we work.
Once your home is protected, we will begin demolition. Once the old materials have been removed, we can start the rough work. If you are moving the plumbing, adding electrical outlets, or moving a wall, this is when it will happen. Before we move forward to the next steps, we will do a walk-through of the space with you to make sure that everything is exactly where you want it.
At this point, construction and installation can begin. We will build and install cabinets, install new countertops, lay tile, and build out storage. We perform construction in stages, taking care to ensure that no part of your new kitchen – such as the countertops or new floors – is damaged in the process.
During construction, we will meet with you regularly to take a look at the project and answer any questions. If you have any changes – such as wanting a different tile for the backsplash or new fixtures for your sink(s) – this gives you the opportunity to let us know. We will also keep you in the loop on any cost increases or changes to the construction timeline.
6. Final Walkthrough
Once construction is complete, we will perform a final walkthrough with you. During this meeting, you can make sure that every aspect of the project has been completed to your satisfaction. We will also complete punch list items, such as touching up paint, testing appliances, cleaning and removing trash and installing outlet covers.
Once the punch list items have been completed and you are happy with the final result, we will do a bit of a new kitchen orientation with you. We will show you everything from how your new appliances work to cool features like pull-out shelves in your pantry.

Frequently Asked Questions about Kitchen Renovations
As full-service custom home builders and renovation experts, our clients often have a lot of questions for us. Below, we answer some of the more commonly asked questions for you.
1. How Much Will My Kitchen Renovation Cost?
It depends on the complexity of your remodel and the materials that you choose. With kitchen renovations, the biggest expenses are often the cabinetry, countertops, and appliances. The cost will largely depend on the materials you choose.
The size and complexity of the project will also affect price. If you are moving walls or adding to your house, it will cost significantly more than a project that mostly involves replacing cabinets, counters, and appliances.
The best way to get an idea of how much your kitchen renovation will cost is to meet with an experienced builder. Carl Deputy & Son Builders can perform a walkthrough of your space, talk to you about what you want done, and then develop an estimate for you.
2. Which Kitchen Remodel Projects Have the Best ROI?
Generally speaking, updating your kitchen is a good investment in the value of your home. Kitchen remodels are considered to have a good return on investment (ROI). In particular, increasing countertop space, installing new cabinets, upgrading the floor, and adding more storage give you a great ROI. Overspending on luxury features – like a fancy built-in coffee machine – might not have a huge ROI.
Of course, your kitchen is part of your home – and you have to live there. Unless you plan to sell in the near future, your renovation should be about what you want – not about what future buyers will want. If you really want a drawer dishwasher or a colorful tile backsplash, then you should go for it – even if you won’t necessarily get a lot of money back for the upgrade.
3. How Should I Choose Cabinets and Finishes for My Kitchen Renovation?
If you have ever been to a home improvement store or scrolled its website, you might have been overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices available. We no longer live in a world where your design choices are limited to what is available locally. While this means that your kitchen can be in almost any style, it can also be hard to figure out what will fit your style and budget and what will last.
At Carl Deputy and Son Builders, we work with our clients to help them choose materials and finishes. We regularly work with these materials and have a good idea of their functionality in particular spaces. For example, if you fall in love with a particular tile style, we can often tell you about prior clients’ experiences with the tile. We also have connections with suppliers to help you find the highest quality materials at the best prices.
4. How Long Should My Kitchen Renovation Take?
Relatively simple kitchen renovations can take a month or two – or much, much longer. As with cost, the timeline for a kitchen renovation can vary considerably based on the size and complexity of the project. If you are doing major structural work as part of the renovation, it will likely take more time to complete.
Your builder should be able to provide you with an estimate of how long your kitchen renovation will take. They should also keep you informed along the way about any delays or other changes to the timeline so that you know exactly what to expect.
5. Can I Stay in My Home During the Renovation?
Most people do live in their homes during a kitchen renovation. That being said, you should be prepared for some disruptions to your normal life. If your family can’t function without kitchen access, then it may be a better idea to stay with family or friends or even rent a place to stay during the project.
Our team will work to minimize the amount of mess by erecting dust barriers. We can also help you with a temporary kitchen setup and try to keep both the noise and mess to a minimum. Keep in mind that the disruption will be temporary – but your beautiful new kitchen will be well worth it.
