Custom Home Builders in Harrington, Delaware
Carl Deputy and Son Builders offer both custom and semi-custom houses in Harrington and the surrounding areas. With a semi-custom home, you get to choose from one of our dozen-plus floor plans and then select the finishes. A fully custom home means that you can design the floor plan and every other detail in your house.

During construction, you will have an opportunity to come to see your house on “muddy boots” tours (where you can expect your shoes to get dirty). You’ll get a chance to check on construction progress, ask questions, and even ask for changes. If you have any concerns or are unsure about some aspect of construction, we will do our best to help you.
The final step in the process is one last walk-through before closing. We’ll finish any punch list items for you and show you how to maintain your new house. It will then be time for closing so that we can transfer the title of your new house to you – and you can get ready to move into your dream home.

About Harrington
A small town in Kent County, Harrington has a population of around 4,000 people. While the community is just 2 square miles in area, it attracts many people to the Harrington Raceway and Casino and the annual Delaware State Fair. It is a short 17-mile drive from Dover, the capital of Delaware.
Harrington was founded by Benjamin Clark in 1780 as “Clark’s Corner.” Clark built a tavern at the intersection of Frederica and Milgord roads, which became a popular stop for stagecoaches and farmers who were traveling to barter their goods. Nearly 100 years later, the Delaware Railroad put a junction at this corner – which gave residents quick access to both Philadelphia and Wilmington. The presence of a railroad helped the population to boom. In 1862, Clark’s Corner was renamed Harrington after the chancellor of the Delaware Railroad.
The Delaware State Fairgrounds was established in 1920 in Harrington as the Kent and Sussex County Fair. Over the years, the fair has grown in popularity and brings millions of dollars of revenue – along with seasonal jobs – to Harrington. The fairgrounds have also become a popular place for concerts, with big acts like Taylor Swift, Little Big Town, and Reba McEntire performing there.
Harrington is also the site of the oldest continuously operating harness racing track in the United States. Harness racing began in the 1940s in Harrington, and remains popular to this day. While the racetrack floundered in the 1990s, a change to Delaware’s gambling laws meant that the racetrack could add a casino – which also helped to boost the local economy.
Beyond the annual fair and the racetrack, there are plenty of other things to do in Harrington. The Centre Ice Risk is a popular place for kids and adults alike. Many residents also enjoy visiting Browns Branch Park, the Great Harrington Historical Society, and events at Quillen Arena. Harrington is also close to many other attractions in Delaware, including the Dover International Speedway, the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, the Rehoboth Tanger Outlets, Cape Henlopen State Park, and Killens Pond State Park.
Harrington is part of the Lake Forest School District. Students can attend Lake Forest South or Lake Forest Central Elementary School. They can then matriculate to W.T. Chipman Middle School and Lake Forest High School.
