About Carl Deputy & Son Builders

For nearly 40 years, Carl Deputy and Son Builders has provided a range of construction services to homeowners in Kent and Sussex Counties and the Eastern Shore of Maryland, including both new construction and renovation projects. Over time, we have built a reputation as one of the preeminent custom home builders in the region. We work with our clients to make sure that they get a beautiful house that meets their goals and their budget.

A point of pride for us as a company is that many of our current clients are referrals from past clients. This is due to the fact that we don’t just build well-constructed houses. We also provide outstanding customer service.

We know that building a house can be stressful – and that many construction firms aren’t great about things like returning calls and emails and keeping clients updated on progress. We put a special emphasis on open communication. When our clients know what is happening and are asked for their input along the way, they are ultimately more satisfied with their home and the construction process.

Staying in regular contact with homeowners means that there are fewer misunderstandings. A project manager will keep you abreast of everything that is happening with your new home build. We will also schedule tours and answer all of your questions and concerns promptly.

In addition to great customer service, we build homes that are both solid and beautiful. We use the highest quality materials, no upgrade required. We also work with subcontractors who are at the top of their game so that every part of your house is built well – and built to last. In our view, there is no such thing as an unimportant detail when it comes to building a custom house.

We know that building a custom home is a major investment, both financially and emotionally. When you move into your new house, we want you to be thrilled with it – and happy that you hired Carl Deputy and Son Builders.

Custom Home Builders in Camden, Delaware

At Carl Deputy and Son Builders, we offer two main options for new house construction: custom and semi-custom homes. With a custom home, you get to design every aspect of the house, from the floor plan to the paint color. Building a semi-custom home means that you will pick the floor plan and then choose your features and finishes.

We can build your new house on one of our own lots or on your own lot. Picking land is an important part of the process, as it will impact the overall cost and construction timeline. It also is the place where you will call home – so you want to make sure that the land you select is right for you.

Next, we will work with you to design your new house. If you are opting for a semi-custom house, you can choose from our collection of more than 12 floor plans and then customize the features and finishes. With a custom house, our designers will collaborate with you to develop a floor plan. You can then continue on to choose all of the details of your house, such as flooring, tile, and more.

With the design finalized, we can provide an estimate and sign a contract. If you need to obtain a loan, you can use this estimate to get a construction and/or land loan. If you don’t have a lender in mind, we can recommend one for you.

The next step is the fun part: breaking ground! Once we make sure that your design is exactly what you want, we will start construction. This will occur in phases, starting with preparing the land, pouring the foundation, roughing in plumbing and electrical, framing the walls, and putting a roof on the house. Once this exterior work is done, then we can begin to work on the interior – including installing cabinets, appliances and fixtures, tiling, installing lights, and more.

Throughout construction, we will schedule what we like to call “muddy boots” tours. You will be able to come to the construction site to walk around, ask questions, discuss any changes you might like, and see how the work is coming along. We will do our best to answer your questions and address any questions that you might have.

The final steps in the process are a final walkthrough and the closing. During this last walkthrough, we will do a homeowner orientation and complete any final items. We will then attend a closing to officially transfer the title of the house. You will get the keys to your new house and can get ready to move!

    About Camden

Camden is a historic town in Kent County, Delaware. With a population of roughly 4,000, Camden is a small community that shares a zip code with neighboring Wyoming, Delaware. Its proximity to Dover – just 4.1 miles away – means that residents of Camden have access to many of the amenities available in the state capital.

Camden was settled in 1680 when a tract of land known as Brecknock was granted to Alexander Humphreys. By 1780, the Mifflin family began dividing their land into lots for development as a Quaker settlement.

Because this land was located at the intersection of two busy roadways, homes and businesses began to spring up. The town became a commercial center, sending local farm products to market through the Port of Lebanon and later by the Delaware Railroad. The intersection where the town started was named after the family – Mifflin’s Crossroads. Camden was incorporated in 1852 and then again in 1969.

Camden is known for its historic houses and buildings. In addition to homes, the Camden Historic District includes four properties that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places: Brecknock, Camden Friends Meetinghouse, Star AME Church, and Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Given its proximity to Dover – a quick 10-minute drive on U.S. 13 – Camden enjoys a strong economy. Many people who live in Camden commute to Dover and to other nearby cities to work for state and/or Kent County government agencies.

Camden is part of the Caesar Rodney School District. Students can attend the Nellie Hughes Stroke Elementary School in Camden or the W.D. Simpson Elementary School in Wyoming. They can then matriculate to Fred Fifer Middle School in Camden before attending Caesar Rodney High School.

As a small town, Camden isn’t necessarily a hotspot for restaurants, nightclubs, and shopping. However, there are still fun things to do around the town. This includes visiting the Air Mobility Command Museum, the Biggs Museum of American Art, the Johnson Victrola Museum, or the Old State House. Residents also visit parks like the Brecknock County Park and the First State Heritage Park. Other attractions include Fifer’s Farm Store and Kitchen, Finding Avalon, and Pizzadili Vineyard and Winery.
